Emergency Food Security & Livelihoods Advisor
£32,405 - £40,260 pa (36hrs pw, open-ended)
Oxford
Who we are
Every year more than 30 million people flee their homes as a result of armed conflict and natural disaster. At Oxfam, we're working in over 30 countries to reduce the threat of death and disease these people face. Based in Oxford, our Emergency Food Security & Livelihoods Team provides support and advice to people working on humanitarian relief efforts around the world. And with only five members, it's a small team that makes a big difference.
The Role
Whether it's a question of food distribution, livestock intervention or acute malnutrition, you'll be an expert source of information and advice for our officers working in the field. You'll appraise emergency situations on behalf of Oxfam, and assess the effectiveness of our food security and livelihoods programmes. You'll advise country programmes and regional centres on emergency planning and preparedness, and assist with the development and support of staff. What's more, your ongoing research into food security, livelihoods and nutrition-related issues will contribute to Oxfam's programmes, policies and strategies for humanitarian work.
What we are looking for
With a relevant qualification and experience in overseas emergency project implementation - primarily gained in the field - you'll have in-depth knowledge of key livelihood and food security issues, as well as humanitarian policies. Fluent in English and conversant in at least one other language, you'll possess excellent communication and advocacy skills, remaining calm under pressure and keeping sight of strategic priorities at all times. You'll also be willing to travel for up to 12 weeks a year.
To apply
This role offers scope for immense personal fulfilment as well as a chance to enrich and develop your career. Not only will you gain consultative experience, your contribution will potentially impact future strategies used by Oxfam and other humanitarian agencies.
